Hip to Be Square
On her twenty–ninth birthday, Mari Hamilton, a worn–out recreation director at Golden Horizons Retirement Home, is convinced that leaving social work will improve her social life. So she seeks and receives a stylish position at a new and fabulous luxury spa. In addition, after countless bad first dates at hip clubs, Mari meets the perfect guy at Golden Horizon’s anniversary party (of all places!). But a funny thing happens to her on the way to a life makeover—a forced stopover in her past where she admits to the unadmittable…
Through all her work and dating adventures and misadventures, Mari realizes that it was in her old life that God was doing a new and incredibly hip thing.

Reviews: Hip to Be Square
“Hope Lyda’s writing is fast–paced, fun and punchy.”
—Margaret Feinberg, author of Twentysomething: Surviving and Thriving in the Real World

“I was totally captivated by the tempo, the humor, and the sparkling dialogue. Ms. Lyda has a real gift and I will look forward to reading anything else she writes in the future.”—Karen Schulke

“I loved Hip to Be Square, which I first picked up at the library here in Beaumont, and then ordered for myself to give to a single young lady in Tucson! This lovely young lady is engaged to my son, but she can still identify with the life and activities of Mari. More books from Hope Lyda, please!”–Julie Ashton
“It is with the greatest delight that I endorse and recommend Hope Lyda’s Hip to Be Square. Hope is a real ‘writer’ in the purest sense of the word, not to mention her gift of tremendous humor and wit which spills from her pen in bright, winsome colors, refreshing and fun. How about a Hip to Be Square for us guys, Hope!”
—Bruce Marchiano, author of In the Footsteps of Jesus
